My friend, Amy, and I stayed at Vallas Apartments right next door (which I recommend!) this past month (August 2016). Our hotel manager, Vaggelis, recommended Mama Thira's when we told him we'd love to find a place to have lunch. What do I say about our experience at Mama Thira's? For starters, I literally cried when I ate the food in the appetizer platter. Yes, cried. It was literally some of the best food I have ever put in my mouth. We had spanokopita (spinach pie) with a delicious pastry crust, tomato balls, crab cakes, ricotta pie, etc. Every bite was better than the next. The waiter told us it would be enough for us to share, and he was right. We even took some of it to-go! When we left, I literally shook the waiter/manager's hand and told him it was the best thing I've ever eaten. We were so enamored with the delicious food and breath-taking rooftop view of the caldera that my friend and I went back an additional two times in our day-and-half stay because the food was just that delicious! When we went for dinner, we ordered the Seafood Risotto and once again got teary-eyed. It was the best risotto I've ever had. I ordered it at another one of our favorite restaurants (in Oia) and was disappointed to find it didn't hold a candle to Mama Thira's! We loved the food so much that we even went back during our last night to order some to-go for the road! I highly recommend coming here!
